Syrian made rapid physical progress last Spring and soon caught the eye of his trainer Michael Bell. This big, powerful son of Hawk Wing made a highly impressive debut at Yarmouth but failed to build on that on his next two starts. He remains open to plenty of improvement as he gains more experience.
Syrian won in good style at Lingfield on 14th August and was subsequently claimed for £12,000 by Ian Williams. Syrian was given a lovely ride from George Baker who ensured that he was not too far off the pace at any stage during the race. The jockey made a critical move coming into the home bend on the outside which enabled him to kick for home early and Syrian soon went well clear before being eased down on the line.
It was great to see him win in this way although disappointing that he has been unable to fulfil his potential; thankfully, though he did leave us on a high note and we wish him well for the future.
